Miss Joanna Higgins Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic, Hand & Wrist Surgeon
Miss Joanna Higgins is a fellowship-trained Consultant Hand and Wrist Surgeon with expertise in the assessment and treatment of a wide range of hand, wrist and upper limb conditions. She is committed to providing clear, personalised care with the aim of restoring comfort, movement and function.
After graduating from the University of Birmingham, Joanna completed her Trauma and Orthopaedic training and was later awarded a nationally appointed subspecialist fellowship at the renowned Pulvertaft Hand Centre in Derby. She was subsequently appointed as a Consultant at University Hospitals Dorset in 2021.
Joanna manages conditions including carpal tunnel syndrome, Dupuytren’s disease, ganglions, lumps and cysts, cubital tunnel syndrome, tendon problems, arthritis and hand or wrist injuries. She believes in a shared and individualised approach to treatment, taking time to explain the options available and helping each patient decide on the most appropriate plan for them. She performs many procedures under local anaesthetic and has a strong interest in improving both patient experience and functional outcomes. Alongside her clinical practice, she is actively involved in surgical education, leadership and service development within hand and wrist surgery.
