What is Ziwig Endotest®?
A laboratory saliva test that looks at microRNA markers associated with endometriosis. It is considered alongside your symptoms, examination and any relevant imaging or investigations.

Frequently asked questions
Does the test diagnose endometriosis on its own?
No. The test result is considered alongside your symptoms, clinical assessment and any relevant scans or investigations. Your consultant will explain how it fits into your individual care.
Is the Endotest suitable for me?
Suitability is determined by a clinician. The test is intended for female patients aged 18 to 43 with symptoms suggestive of endometriosis, subject to a full discussion of your circumstances and the laboratory’s eligibility criteria.
When will I receive my result?
TDL lists a laboratory turnaround time of 25 days from receipt of the saliva sample. Your result will then be reviewed in the context of your consultation and any other relevant investigations.
Do I need to stop hormonal treatment before testing?
The manufacturer states that the test can be performed while taking hormonal treatment. Your consultant will confirm the most appropriate arrangements for you.
How much does it cost?
The Ziwig Endotest® package costs £999.00 and includes a consultation with Mr Alexander Taylor, Consultant Obstetrician & Gynaecologist.
What happens if my Endotest result is positive?
A positive Endotest result supports a diagnosis of endometriosis. Mr Taylor will review your result alongside your symptoms, medical history and any previous investigations. He will then discuss the most appropriate next steps with you, which may include further imaging to assess the location and extent of any endometriosis and a discussion about suitable treatment options. A positive result does not automatically mean that surgery will be required
What happens if my Endotest result is negative?
A negative Endotest result makes endometriosis less likely, but your result will not be considered in isolation. Mr Taylor will review it alongside your symptoms, medical history and any previous investigations. If your symptoms continue, he can advise whether any further assessment or investigation is appropriate and consider other possible causes for your symptoms.
Will I still need an ultrasound, MRI or laparoscopy?
Possibly. Endotest provides diagnostic information but does not show where endometriosis is located or how extensive it may be. Depending on your symptoms, medical history and Endotest result, Mr Taylor may recommend further imaging such as an ultrasound or MRI to help identify and map any areas of endometriosis and plan treatment. Laparoscopy is not automatically required following an Endotest result and would only be considered where clinically appropriate.
Is the Endotest suitable for me?
Endotest is intended for women aged 18–43 who have symptoms suggestive of endometriosis. It is not currently validated for use during pregnancy or in patients with a history of cancer or HIV, and the saliva sample should not be collected if you have an infection at the time. Mr Taylor will assess your symptoms and medical history and confirm whether the test is appropriate for you before proceeding.
