Mr Parkash Ramchandani BDS, MB ChB (Hons), FDSRCS, FRCS (OMFS), FRCS (CSiG)

After qualifying in Dentistry from the University of Liverpool in 1990 and obtaining the FDSRCS (England), Mr Parkash Ramchandani went on to study Medicine at the Universities of St Andrews and Manchester, graduating with honours in 1997. He completed his basic surgical training in Manchester and, after passing the FRCS, moved to the South Coast in 2000 to undertake higher surgical training.

His specialist training took place across a number of centres including Chichester, Portsmouth, Southampton, Salisbury, Poole, Bournemouth and Dorchester. He subsequently completed a Head and Neck Cancer Fellowship in Beijing before being appointed as a Consultant in 2005.

Mr Ramchandani is an Oral and Maxillofacial and Head and Neck Surgeon with extensive experience in the management of complex conditions affecting the face, jaws and neck. His clinical practice includes resection and reconstruction for head and neck cancer, facial skin cancer, facial deformity, temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disease, maxillofacial trauma, salivary gland disease, orofacial pain, and dentoalveolar surgery. He regularly performs minimally invasive TMJ procedures, including arthrocentesis and arthroscopy, as well as open TMJ surgery such as arthroplasty and joint replacement. His practice also includes facial cosmetic surgery and dental and craniofacial implant work.

He has a particular interest in oral medicine, managing conditions such as oral infections, mouth ulcers, red and white mucosal lesions, and blistering diseases of the oral lining.

Mr Ramchandani is currently the Clinical Lead for Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and has previously held responsibility for clinical governance within the specialty.

Teaching, Training and Academic Roles

Mr Ramchandani is passionate about education and training. He is the Training Programme Director for Higher Surgical Trainees in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in the Wessex region and acts as an Educational Supervisor for Dental Core Trainees.

He is a Visiting Senior Lecturer at Bournemouth University, where he teaches Physician Associates, and an Associate Professor at St George’s Hospital Medical School in Grenada, West Indies.

As a member of the Specialist Advisory Committee in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, he contributes to shaping the national surgical training curriculum. He has been an examiner for the Intercollegiate FRCS (OMFS) and the Irish FFD (OSOM) examinations since 2012 and was recently appointed Chairman of the Court of Examiners for the Intercollegiate Specialty Board in OMFS. He has also previously been a trainer for the Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) course accredited by the Royal College of Surgeons.

Research and Publications

Mr Ramchandani has presented extensively at national and international meetings, most recently as a guest speaker at the British Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Annual Scientific Meeting in London in June 2023. He has published widely in peer-reviewed journals and has authored five chapters across four textbooks on head and neck surgery. He is also a section editor for the most recent edition of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, a key reference text for surgeons.

Personal Interests

Outside of work, Parkash enjoys reading, running, keeping fit and listening to music. He holds a private pilot’s licence and would enjoy returning to flying light aircraft if time allowed.
