What Should I Expect After the Mona Lisa Touch Treatment?

You may experience some slight discomfort after your treatment, but you can resume everyday activities relatively quickly. However, you should avoid sexual activity for at least 3 days as well as physical exercise or taking a bath. Alex will give you specific aftercare instructions after your treatment to allow for a speedy recovery!

What Happens During the Mona Lisa Touch Procedure?

The Mona Lisa Touch treatment is a course of 3 treatments, which are performed by Consultant Gynaecologist Mr Alexander Taylor. The procedure is a bit like an having an internal vaginal ultrasound, it involves a small probe being carefully inserted into the vagina. The probe will then be turned both clockwise and counter clockwise to stimulate collagen production by distributing a light powered beam to the vaginal wall, allowing new blood vessels to form, creating higher levels of elastin, and repairing the vaginal membrane. Because the treatment is so simple and minimally invasive you will be able to go home the same day.

Will I Be Covered by Insurance?

No, you won’t. Currently no procedural codes have been added by insurers.

What should I do on the day of my treatment?

  • Shower or bathe the morning of treatment, so that the area to be treated is clean
  • Clip or trim long pubic hair
  • Understand the consent form

Patient Discharge Information

  1. Following the Procedure

This is classed as an outpatient procedure, so you will be able to return to your normal daily activities straight away.

  1. Care at home

Your skin may feel sensitive and slightly swollen for a few days after the procedure. Some women experience a burning sensation and some itching in the treated area, and possibly experience a watery discharge or light spotting for a few days. Wearing loose underwear made of natural fibres may help, avoid tight fitting trousers. You can use cold compresses or cold gel packs (10-20minutes on, 10-20 minutes off) as needed to help any swelling and discomfort. Gently cleanse/shower the area twice a day with mild soap. Dry area after by patting with a towel rather than wiping. Although unlikely, should you feel you need some pain relief paracetamol / Ibuprofen will be adequate.

Things to Avoid

  • Avoid bathing for 72 hours.
  • Do not use tampons and avoid sexual intercourse for 1 week or until the area feels less swollen and more comfortable.
  • Avoid lifting heavy weights for 3-4 days.

 Pain relief

Although unlikely, should you experience any discomfort after your procedure you can take your normal medication for pain relief.
